How about a story about Wyndham Vale? It is a suburb in Melbourne. Wyndham Vale is one of Melbourne’s fastest-growing suburbs. It is located 31 km south-west of Melbourne’s Central Business District. We’re standing in a place with a rich history.
Before European settlement, the area was home to Aboriginal clans. It formed a boundary between three language groups. These were Wadawurrung, Woiwurrung and Boon wurrung. They lived here for thousands of years.
Later, Wyndham Vale became a pastoral area. This happened after Melbourne was established. Also the town of Werribee was founded in the early 1800s. Land was cleared for cattle and farming. Large estates were built. Cobbledink Farm was one such estate. It was 1000 acres. It was built in 1868.
Suburban development began in the late 1990s. It rapidly expanded in the early 2000s. Today, Wyndham Vale sees significant population growth. New housing is being constructed here.
In June 2012, Melbourne’s growth boundary increased. It included an area of Wyndham Vale. This caused rapid growth.
Wyndham Vale sits on the eastern edge of the Newer Volcanics Province. This is also known as the Western Volcanic Plain. The landscape is relatively flat. You can still see remnant grassland and vegetation. Lollipop and Cherry Creeks flow through Wyndham Vale. They eventually reach Port Phillip Bay.

McGrath Road and Bolton Road are also important. As part of the Regional Rail Link in 2015, new roads and bridges were built. Armstrong Road was constructed. Road bridges were built over the new railway line. These are at Manor Lakes Boulevard. They are also at Greens Road and Black Forest Road.
Wyndham Vale train station opened on June 21, 2015. It was part of the Regional Rail Link. It faces Armstrong Road. There is another exit onto Eureka Drive. The station has around 600 car parking spaces. There is bicycle parking. Bus connections link to surrounding areas. V/Line trains to Geelong service the station. The line may be electrified up to Wyndham Vale by 2031.
The Wyndham bus network was upgraded in 2015. This coincided with the opening of the Regional Rail Link. It became one of the most successful bus network changes in Victoria. Patronage increased by 45%. Most bus services serve Wyndham Vale Railway Station. They provide access to Werribee and Hoppers Crossing.
Wyndham Vale Reserve is on Honour Avenue. Several sports clubs use this facility. One example is the Wyndham Vale Cricket Club.
The Wyndhamvale Football Club competes in the Western Region Football League. The Wyndham Vale Falcons Junior Football Club has several junior teams. Their home ground is now at Wyndham Vale South Reserve. This is on Black Forest Road.
President’s Park is a large area of parkland. It is a recreation reserve on McGrath Road. It has walking and cycling tracks. There are wetlands and dog off-leash areas. The vegetation is home to many types of flora and fauna. Several sporting clubs use the facilities here. Examples include the Werribee Hockey Club. The Werribee Giants Baseball Club also uses it.
