How about a journey to a district where ancient charm meets modern ambition? That’s Wuzhong District for you. Wuzhong District sits in the southern part of Suzhou. It is next to Taihu Lake.

Wuzhong District covers a large area. The land spans 742 square kilometers. The water area is even larger at 1459 square kilometers. This accounts for three fifths of Taihu Lake’s total size.

Wuzhong District is divided into several areas. It has one State-level Taihu Lake Tourist Resort. There is also one State Modern Agricultural Demonstration Park. A provincial-level economic development zone exists there too. Seven towns and eight neighborhoods fall under its jurisdiction. Wuzhong also includes the Suzhou Qionglong Mountain Scenery Precinct. Around 570000 people are registered as permanent residents here.

Over the years Wuzhong District has focused on key projects. These projects aim to strengthen its economic zones. They also focus on beautifying the Taihu Lake hills and waters. The prettification of Wuzhong New Town is a key task. Good rural construction is a major goal. Wuzhong aims for coordinated and sustained development. It wants to improve industrialization urbanization and modernization.

In 2008 Wuzhong District achieved significant economic results. The regional gross output value was 46.80 billion yuan. The total fiscal revenue reached 13.70 billion yuan. Various economic and social indexes exceeded expectations.

Wuzhong District has attracted substantial investment. Over 1800 foreign-funded enterprises operate here. They come from over 40 countries and regions. More than 10000 domestic civilian-funded enterprises have invested in Wuzhong. The total foreign-enterprise registered capital is USD 7 billion. The total domestic-enterprise registered capital exceeds RMB 40 billion. Twelve enterprises from the World Top 500 have a presence in Wuzhong.

Backed by its advantages Wuzhong District is developing diverse industries. It is advancing its manufacturing modern service and new hi-tech industries. Modern ecological agriculture is also thriving. Wuzhong aims to become an economically strong district. It wants its people to enjoy a good life. It strives for harmonious societal development.

Several Fortune 500 companies have invested in Wuzhong. These include US-based Wyeth and Japan-based HITACHI. Other Japanese companies like MITSUBISHI SANYO ELECTRIC MARUBENI KANEMATSU and ITOCHU are present. France-based LAFARGE and Denmark-based A.P.MOLLER-MAERSK GROUP also have operations here.

In November 2010 Southlake established a Friendship City relationship with Wuzhong District. Wuzhong is one of five urban districts in Suzhou Jiangsu province. It has a land area of 770 square kilometers. The Taihu Lake water area covers 1443 square kilometers. The population is just over 610000.

Through collaboration Variosystems of Southlake partnered with Wuzhong Economic Development Zone. They constructed a new manufacturing facility in Wuzhong. An education exchange program was created. CISD and Wuzhong Education Bureau signed an agreement for education cooperation.
