Many children suffered from being delicate and undernourished. An open-air school seemed like a great idea.

The Downham Open Air School opened by 1930. It accommodated 130 children. The school was later renamed Woodlands Open Air School. It remained operational until the early 1970s. This school provided care during the war years. After its closure, the site remained for educational use. It became the New Woodlands School. This new school serves children aged 4 to 14. These children have behavioural, emotional, or social difficulties.

Today’s Woodlands School maintains high standards. Ofsted inspections have resulted in “Outstanding” outcomes. The school fosters a happy, purposeful, and safe environment. Students can thrive here.
