Curiosity stirred within the heart of Southfields as a new chapter began. Southfields Methodist Church held its first public service in December 1905 at Merton Road School. The congregation, eager for a permanent home, soon outgrew this temporary space. In 1908, a School Chapel, seating 400, opened on Ravensbury Road. Southfields Methodist Church continued to flourish. Just 17 years later, a much larger Central Hall was built at the corner of Ravensbury and Durnsford Road. This grand new building served a dual purpose. It wasn’t just a place of worship. Southfields Methodist Church also aimed to be the heart of the local community, hosting events like music concerts and film screenings. The Central Hall even leased parts of its premises to local businesses, fostering a spirit of togetherness. Southfields Methodist Church’s story, much like the community it served, was one of growth, adaptation, and enduring faith.
