Tucked away on Auckland’s western edge lies Woodlands Bay. It’s a serene spot. Woodlands Bay forms part of the larger Manukau Harbour. The history of Woodlands Bay is intertwined with the history of the wider Woodlands Park area. Woodlands Park sits nestled in the Waitākere Ranges. The area was originally farmland in the 1860s. Access was primarily via Little Muddy Creek until road access improved around 1914. Imagine arriving by boat to the quiet shores of Woodlands Bay, the only sound the gentle lapping of the water against the hull. In the early 20th century, the area was part of the McEldowney fruit farm. This family farm added to the character of the area. Picture orchards stretching towards the bay. The scent of ripe fruit hangs heavy in the air. Woodlands Park saw most of its housing development between the 1950s and 1970s. These homes are often tucked among native bush, creating a unique blend of urban and natural environments. Today, Woodlands Bay offers a tranquil retreat. It’s a reminder of a simpler time. It provides stunning views of the Manukau Harbour.
