In the heart of Princes Park, a bronze figure stands gazing at three small boats. This, my friends, is the Within Three Worlds Sculpture. This poignant sculpture, created by Loretta Quinn in 1995, has a fascinating backstory. The original Within Three Worlds Sculpture was stolen in 2010. Thieves used an angle grinder to sever the statue at its feet. Thankfully, a new edition was cast and installed in 2011. While the figure is new, the three boats in the pond are the originals, silent witnesses to both the joy and sorrow the sculpture represents. This new version is even said to be better than the original, with finer details on the dress, shoes and hands. The new statue also boasts a green finish and stands a meter closer to the pond, creating a more intimate feel. The Within Three Worlds Sculpture is not just art. It’s a tribute. The sculpture is dedicated to Angela Jane Esdaile, a childcare worker, and commemorates the contributions of all those in her profession. It’s a reminder of the fleeting nature of life and the enduring power of memory.
