The church on Willow Road has been standing for over 60 years. The Winnetka Presbyterian Church was built in 1961 at the corner of Willow and Hibbard. The church is considered a newer one in Winnetka, but has a rich history of its own. It was built by a group of residents who wanted a place where they could learn about faith, find community, and grow in their relationship with God. The original organizing pastor was D. Clarence Spaulding and the church held its first services at Skokie Junior High School in 1956. Winnetka Presbyterian Church was a place where young people, as well as adults, could develop their faith and engage in service opportunities. The church has gone through periods of growth and change, but its mission has always remained the same: to be a place of spiritual growth and community for people of all ages. If you look closely at the façade of the church, you will see a small plaque embedded in the brick that commemorates the poem written by Dr. Harold de Vries at the church’s dedication. It’s a reminder that Winnetka Presbyterian Church is not just a building, but a living community of faith.
