From its humble beginnings in 1900 Wingfield Primary School has a rich history. Located on Ensign Street in London it served the community for over a century. Wingfield Primary School wasn’t always an academy. It started as a community school. It welcomed children aged 3 to 11. It was a mixed gender school. The school had a capacity of 532 pupils. At its peak it housed nearly 500.
Many children passed through its doors. They learned reading writing and arithmetic. They made friends and memories. They experienced the joys and challenges of childhood. The school played an important role in the local community. It fostered learning. It built character. It laid the groundwork for future generations.
Wingfield Primary School had a nursery provision. It did not have a sixth form. It did not offer boarding. It did not have any special classes. There’s an interesting detail. About 12% of pupils were eligible for free school meals. This highlights the socio-economic diversity of the area it served.
Unfortunately Wingfield Primary School closed its doors in March 2021. The reason was its conversion to an academy. It reopened on April 1 2021 under a new name. It is now part of The Compass Partnership of Schools. The new Wingfield Primary School has a larger capacity of 652 pupils. The current headteacher is Dr Ross Silcock. Although the original building is gone the spirit of Wingfield Primary School lives on. It lives on in the memories of those who attended. It lives on in the achievements of its students.
