Whoa! Studios opened in December 2016. It quickly became a dynamic destination for family fun in Auckland. Located in Henderson Valley Road, Henderson. Whoa! Studios combines movie studio magic with live stage performances. It is all in one amazing space.
One of the most striking features of Whoa! Studios is Australasia’s first crochet playing net. This vibrant structure took over two years to craft. It uses 70 kilometers of coloured nylon. Adventurous children can climb and bounce through its layers. It is a unique experience you won’t find anywhere else.
The urban park playground at Whoa! Studios is designed to spark creativity. Movie set builders and acclaimed artists created it. Kids can explore a pirate ship. They can play in a castle. They can even climb aboard a space rocket. The playground offers endless opportunities for imaginative play.
Need a break? The Grounds Restaurant offers delicious and healthy dishes by Ben Bayly. The open-plan restaurant provides a stunning setting for a family meal. There is also a kids menu. It offers healthy versions of popular meals. For a sweet treat, try the gourmet flavored ice creams on sticks. They are a hit with all ages.
Whoa! Studios also cares about comfort. A large parents’ room at the back of the restaurant offers a change table. It also offers plenty of space for a buggy. The playground is lit up at night. It is a great space for kids if you are eating in the restaurant.
Live performances are a key part of the Whoa! Studios experience. The resident puppet show is based on ‘Custards World’. It is a movie in production. Bob Baker wrote the scripts for it. Shade Systems created a bespoke solution. It protects against UV rays. It also provides shelter. They supplied the support framework for the crochet net. They integrated a PVC canopy into the structure. David Sutherland, the owner of Whoa! Studios, praised Shade Systems. He valued their ideas and flexibility. The shade system is an outstanding feature.
Adjacent to the crochet net, three overlapping shade sails grace the outdoor cafe space. These structures provide respite from the sun. They enhance the overall ambiance. The interplay of light and shadow creates a visually appealing environment.
Whoa! Studios is easily accessible. It is a short walk from Henderson Train Station. There is also limited car parking onsite. The studio is open Wednesday to Sunday during term time. It is open daily during school holidays.
Entry to the Urban Park is free with a show ticket. Otherwise, there is a small charge for children. Shows can be booked online. Booking online gets you a discount. Kids aged 3 years and under are free for shows. But they will not get their own seat.
