Wow This is Whitmore High School. A remarkable institution. It stands proudly on Porlock Avenue in Harrow. Did you know that Whitmore High School wasn’t always one school?
In September 1974 the London Borough of Harrow decided on a comprehensive education system. This transformed two separate schools Lascelles Boys Secondary School and Lascelles Girls Secondary School. These schools shared a site. They merged to become the Whitmore High School we see today.
Whitmore High School isn’t just any school. It’s a community comprehensive school. It also boasts a sixth form. It’s even a specialist Science College. The school moved to a brand new building in 2010. That’s quite a milestone.
The school has consistently earned top marks. Ofsted rated it Outstanding in both 2007 and 2015. That’s a testament to the dedication of teachers students and staff. Imagine the pride felt by the community.
Whitmore’s sixth form opened in 2006. This was part of Harrow’s collegiate post-16 education initiative. A new sixth form block opened in 2015. It includes six classrooms a common room and a study area.
And get this some famous people attended Whitmore High School. Dev Patel the actor from Slumdog Millionaire is an alumnus. So is Owen Hurcum a former mayor of Bangor Gwynedd.
