Let’s step back in time. The first Weymouth school opened on September 7, 1891. It wasn’t here on Evans Road, but on Weymouth Road. This school quickly became the heart of Weymouth. Concerts and dances filled its halls. In 1914, the All Saints Anglican Church hall was built nearby. As Weymouth School grew, classes spilled into the church hall.
However, the school faced challenges. By 1946, overcrowding forced its closure. Students were moved to schools in central Manurewa. It was a tough time for the Weymouth community. The heart of their community was gone.
But Weymouth was growing. By 1960, the community needed its own school again. That’s when Weymouth School was re-established here on Evans Road. It was a new beginning.
Today, Weymouth School continues to serve its community. It offers a Māori language immersion unit. This unit caters for years 1 to 8. Weymouth School embraces the local culture.
Weymouth School has a roll of 396 students as of November 2024. It is a co-educational primary school for years 1 to 6. The principal is Saane Faaofo-Oldehaver.
