Did you know Westwood Community Church has a bold vision? It is called 10/10/10. Westwood Community Church started as an outreach. Wooddale Church in Minneapolis began it in 1995. Wooddale Church was first located in Loring Park.
In the early years, Westwood Community Church held services in rented spaces. Then, in 2003, a permanent church home was built in Chanhassen. Westwood quickly began to expand. By 2011, it helped start Westbrook Church in Chaska.
In 2009, Anderson Companies partnered with Westwood. They worked with architect Cuningham Group. Together, they expanded the Chanhassen location. The expansion almost doubled the church’s size. It added an adult learning space. It also added a youth group area. The design matched the north woods style of the original building. A new youth entry with active student spaces was created. The addition allowed for a new courtyard and play area. It was situated between the two wings.
Westwood launched its first multisite church in 2016. It was named Westwood Minnetonka. It was in a rented facility. However, they decided to suspend it until a new location is found.
In 2018, Anderson Companies and Cuningham Group helped Westwood again. They designed and built a new multisite church in Bloomington. It is called Westwood Bush Lake. The church leases space in a commercial industrial flex facility. The team transformed the space. It became a welcoming church. It features a 450-seat sanctuary. There are also educational rooms, a café and a generous narthex.
Westwood Community Church focuses on expanding its faith community. The first 10 in their vision means creating 10 multisite churches. Each multisite has its own campus pastor. It has live worship music. They have great kids and student programs. The teaching message is broadcast on giant screens. All multisites share the same church leadership and structure.
The second 10 involves helping start independent churches. These churches are for immigrants. They are also for culturally diverse communities within the Twin Cities.
The last 10 is about church planting. This involves training pastors. They will start churches in under-churched locations worldwide.
Westwood Community Church is associated with the Evangelical Free Church of America. An EIN identifies the church for tax purposes. The fiscal year ends in June. Westwood Community Church was formed in 1965. Donations to the church are tax-deductible.
