Let’s step back to the late 19th century. In 1893 a Baptist witness began in Weston. Highfield Church initiated this exciting movement in the Rexdale area, now part of Metropolitan Toronto. Twenty-five people were present at the start.

Picture a small brick Sunday schoolroom. It measured 32 by 50 feet. The pioneer members wisely placed it at the back of the lot. This foresight shaped the church’s future. By 1909, the church clerk reported 29 new members. Despite this growth, church life remained somewhat apathetic.

Fast forward to 1947. Attendance grew. More young people joined the services. They actively participated in Sunday School and the choir. Expansion became necessary. Pastor Greer advocated for a new building without delay.

“Operation Nehemiah” marked a significant moment in 1983. Members voted to expand the front of the building. They aimed to raise $180000 for the project. Clark Kostik led the Building Committee. The goal was to complete the project by February 1984. The elevator installation and foyer completion happened quickly. The cornerstone was laid on December 18 1983. Dave Saunders chaired the Deacon’s Board.

“Search For Tomorrow” defined 1987. Tim Huff joined Youth For Christ. He focused on youth from Weston Collegiate Institute. This outreach aimed to connect with the Weston community.

In 1990, Weston Baptist and Pelmo Park Baptist merged. This merger changed the church’s name to Western Park Baptist Church. It was a pivotal moment.
