One gripping tale involves the ‘White Swan’ shipwreck of October 1859. Norman Stone hired the sailing ship to move his family. They were traveling from their land near West Arm to Minnetonka Mills. A fall storm caught them by surprise. The ship listed and took on water. Tragedy struck as Mrs. Stone and her children were lost. Mr. Stone also perished trying to save them. Only Robert McKenzie survived by finding a pioneer cabin.
