Founded in 1962 Welthungerhilfe has a rich history. It began as the German Committee for the Fight Against Hunger. This was part of a larger international effort. The Freedom From Hunger Campaign was launched by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization. Welthungerhilfe’s goal is simple yet ambitious: to eradicate global hunger. They work tirelessly with local organizations. Their aim is to empower communities to overcome poverty and hunger sustainably.

Welthungerhilfe isn’t just about immediate aid. It’s about long-term solutions. They invest in projects focusing on rural development and food security. These projects also cover basic infrastructure restoration. They build schools and roads. They support social integration education and health initiatives. They even implement WASH programs improving access to water sanitation and hygiene.

The organization’s impact is vast. Since its inception Welthungerhilfe has channeled over 5 billion euros into more than 12000 projects. These projects span 72 countries across Africa Latin America and Asia. In 2023 alone they had 643 projects in 36 countries. This includes both international and domestic initiatives.

Welthungerhilfe stands out for its transparency. They were recognized in 2014 as one of the most transparent organizations in Germany. This is a testament to their commitment to accountability. They publish annual reports detailing their finances and impact. This allows donors to see exactly how their contributions are used. The administrative costs are very low. Only 2.2% of their budget in 2023 went to administration.

Beyond direct aid Welthungerhilfe engages in advocacy. They work to influence development policies in Germany and Europe. They collaborate with other organizations like terre des hommes. Together they publish reports on the realities of development aid. Welthungerhilfe’s dedication isn’t just about providing food. It’s about creating lasting change. It’s about building a world where hunger is a thing of the past. Their presence here in Bonn reflects their global reach. They continue to work towards a hunger-free future. This incredible organization deserves our admiration and support.
