Aimed to ease traffic flow, the Weisenauer Brücke stands before us as a vital link. This impressive structure spans the Rhine River connecting Mainz-Weisenau and Ginsheim-Gustavsburg. Let’s dive into the story of this crucial bridge.

The Weisenauer Brücke is one of three road bridges linking Mainz and Hessen. The others are the Theodor-Heuss-Brücke and the Schiersteiner Brücke. Further upstream is the Nibelungenbrücke in Worms.

Built between 1961 and 1962, the Weisenauer Brücke stretches 900 meters. Georg Strigl from MAN Werk Gustavsburg designed it. This bridge carries the A60 autobahn with six lanes.

Did you know that over 100,000 vehicles cross the Weisenauer Brücke daily? This makes it a crucial artery for commuters and travelers. The bridge facilitates access from Mainz to Frankfurt Airport, Deutsche Bank Park and the Frankfurt Trade Fair.

The Weisenauer Brücke features a steel construction spanning 409.40 meters. Its central span measures 203.94 meters. The side spans are 73.70 meters and 131.76 meters.

For pedestrians and cyclists, the Weisenauer Brücke offers a combined path. It runs between Mainz-Weisenau/Laubenheim and Ginsheim-Gustavsburg.

A significant upgrade was completed in early 2003. The bridge’s structure was reinforced. It was widened by 0.75 meters on each side to accommodate six lanes. A new anti-corrosion system was added. The road surface was renewed. Expansion joints were replaced. These improvements increased traffic flow between Mainz-Laubenheim and Ginsheim-Gustavsburg. The project cost about 15.3 million euros. Today, that sum would be around 23.1 million euros.

The Autobahnkreuz Mainz-Süd is undergoing reconstruction. This project includes replacing bridge structures. The Autobahn GmbH is managing this. Challenges include maintaining traffic flow. About 100,000 vehicles use the A60 daily. Around 80,000 vehicles travel the A63.

In December 2024, the Nordbrücke at the Autobahnkreuz Mainz-Süd was opened to traffic. This is a key milestone in the ongoing construction.

As we stand here, remember the Weisenauer Brücke’s story. It’s a tale of engineering, constant improvement, and regional connection. The Weisenauer Brücke ensures the smooth flow of people and goods.
