Consider the vision of sharing Buddha’s wisdom. This vision brought Wat Phra Dhammakaya Auckland into being. We are standing before a beacon of peace. It shares the Dhammakaya meditation.

Wat Phra Dhammakaya Auckland began with the Most Venerable Dhammajayo Bhikkhu. He is the abbot of the Dhammakaya temple in Thailand. His goal was to share inner peace with everyone. He wanted to spread the Dhammakaya meditation. The Most Venerable Phra Mongkol Thep Muni first taught this meditation.

In 1997, Buddhist monks journeyed from Thailand. They traveled to Oceania led by Phra Palad Sudham Sudhammo. He is now Phra Sudhamma Yanvidesa Vi. The Sangha first visited Sydney, Australia. Then they journeyed to Auckland, New Zealand. They also went to other Pacific Islands, such as the Solomon Islands.

Dhammakaya supporters worldwide participated in Kathina-Robe offerings. This helped to fund a meditation hall. It celebrated the 60th birthday of the Most Venerable Dhammajayo. Buddhists from many countries gathered funds. These countries included Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos. They also included China, Malaysia, South Korea, and New Zealand. They bought land and built the first meditation center in Orewa on April 22, 2004. This was an off-season offering of robes to the Most Venerable Dhammajayo.

Wat Phra Dhammakaya Auckland became a non-profit. It was registered as the 60th Dhammachai Education Foundation of New Zealand. Today Wat Phra Dhammakaya Auckland is on Seaview Road in Castor Bay. This is in the North Island of Auckland.
