The Warren Boardwalk is a hidden gem nestled within the heart of Great Barrier Island’s Port Fitzroy. It’s a gateway to a lush, green world, a world teeming with native flora and fauna. The Warren Boardwalk offers an easy, accessible path to a stunning waterfall. The walk itself is a gentle climb, the boardwalk winding through indigenous and exotic forest. Along the way, you might spot the chevron skink darting amongst the undergrowth or hear the melodic calls of the pīwakawaka, the fantail. Keep an eye out for the tī kōuka, the cabbage tree, its stark silhouette contrasting with the vibrant green of the surrounding foliage. As you continue along the Warren Boardwalk, the sound of rushing water grows louder. The boardwalk eventually leads you to a stream, where deep pools invite you for a refreshing dip. Though tempting, especially after your walk, be aware that the water is quite cold. You can admire the beauty of the waterfall, but it’s best to avoid swimming due to water quality.
