Walton-on-Thames Methodist Church

Built in 1887 the Walton-on-Thames Methodist Church stands before you. It replaced an older building on Annett Road. That building was sadly demolished by the Gas Board. The new church is a High Victorian brick structure. Surprisingly its style is quite simple. The Walton-on-Thames Methodist Church has a traditional cruciform plan. This means it has a nave chancel and transepts. Its slate roof is original. Sadly the slates are deteriorating. They are brittle fractured and some are even slipping. A grant helped fund roof repairs. This prevented water damage to the interior of the Walton-on-Thames Methodist Church. The church is active today. It holds Sunday services at 10 am. Its motto is “All are Welcome” even well-behaved dogs. Communion is held on the first Sunday of each month. It’s led by Reverend Shaun Sanders. Sunday School meets every week except the first Sunday. Then young people join the Holy Communion service. A creche operates on the first and third Sundays. Messy Church and Youth Group also meet periodically. The Walton-on-Thames Methodist Church also hosts “Pudding and Praise” services. These are vibrant Cafe Worship style services. They emphasize prayer meditation a short message and praise. And of course fabulous puddings. These services are led by Breeze the church’s praise band. They aim for two such services per quarter. A prayer group meets remotely each Saturday morning. Home groups meet throughout the year particularly during Lent and Advent. The Walton-on-Thames Methodist Church is a vital part of the community.
