Ever imagine whispering secrets to the deer? Here at Waldau Wildgehege that dream comes alive.

Waldau Wildgehege is a special place. It offers a slice of nature right here in Bonn. It is a municipal game reserve on the Venusberg. It is part of the Waldau forest area in Ippendorf.

Let us take a walk through time and nature.

Back in 1961, this area transformed into a haven for local wildlife. Today, Waldau Wildgehege is home to three separate enclosures. Each one houses different animals. You will find Damwild. You will see Rotwild. And of course, there is the Schwarzwild or wild boar.

The best time to visit Waldau Wildgehege? Any season offers something unique. March brings new life with the arrival of Frischlinge or piglets. May and June are perfect for seeing young deer. Autumn is marked by the Röhren. This is the call of the deer during mating season.

Notice the feeding stations around the park. These allow us to give the animals a treat. You can buy special food from the dispensers. This ensures the animals get what is good for them.

Waldau Wildgehege spans seven hectares. The animals have plenty of room to roam. They can also hide away.

Beyond the animals, Waldau Wildgehege offers even more. Visit the Haus der Natur. This is an environmental education center. It has exhibits about ecology and geology. There is also a large playground for children. And don’t forget the Waldau restaurant nearby.

The city of Bonn bought the Waldau farm in 1908. Along with it came much of the surrounding forest. This forest is now a mixed woodland. After World War II, in the 1950s, reforestation began.

Take the Bonner Weg der Artenvielfalt for a walk. This path explains nature over nine stations. There are also fifteen informational signs. The children’s book character Hase Felix explains all. There is even a barefoot path. You can feel nature with your feet.

Do you hear that sound? It comes from a very special tree here at Waldau Wildgehege. The Klangbaum was made from a beech tree. It fell during a storm in the Kottenforst. Step inside the tree’s hollow. Embrace the 250 year old tree. Listen to the sounds of nature in different seasons.

Waldau Wildgehege is more than just a park. It is a journey into the heart of nature. It is a place where you can connect with animals. It is a place to learn about the environment. And it is a place to simply enjoy the peace and beauty around you.
