A crowned skull atop a stack of books and bread sits nestled amongst the greenery. This is the VRS21 Mosaic, one of many art installations created by the anonymous French artist Invader. Invader’s work is known as “Space Invaders” because it features pixelated alien figures that resemble the characters from the classic 1970s arcade game of the same name. The VRS21 Mosaic, which is located in Versailles, is a subtle yet striking tribute to the iconic game. It’s a whimsical, 8-bit take on a traditional Parisian scene, which is fitting for the world-famous palace that it stands near. The mosaic is small and unassuming, but it’s a powerful reminder of the artist’s passion for transforming public spaces into unexpected art galleries. Invader’s work, both in Versailles and other cities around the world, has helped to catapult street art into the mainstream. His art is a testament to creativity and bold artistic expression.
