Beneath the unassuming surface of Vitten lies a village steeped in tradition. Vitten is a small village in East Jutland. It has a population of 218 in 2024. It sits six kilometers northwest of Hinnerup. Vitten also lies six kilometers southwest of Hadsten. Aarhus is 21 kilometers to the southeast. This places Vitten in the heart of Region Midtjylland. It belongs to Favrskov Kommune.

Vitten is located within Vitten Sogn. Its church is central to the village’s identity. The transport and logistics company Frode Laursen has its headquarters here. This gives the small village a unique profile.

But Vitten is perhaps most famous for a very special tradition. Every year, the people of Vitten celebrate Fastelavn. Fastelavn is a Shrovetide carnival. Vitten has fastelavnssoldater or Shrovetide soldiers. They walk around the parish. The soldiers collect money for a feast. This tradition celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2010.

Now cast your mind south of Vitten. There, you will find Præsteskoven, a local forest. Here lies Dronning Dagmars Kilde or Queen Dagmar’s Spring. Thor Lange erected a memorial stone here in 1906. The architect Kühnel designed it.

Vitten remains a vibrant community with deep roots. It has a unique blend of local tradition and modern commerce.
