Once a small village school, Virring Skole now stands as a modern educational hub. It serves around 450 students. Let’s step back in time and explore its evolution.

Virring itself is first mentioned in historical records dating back to 1311. The name was Werringh. The village consisted of only nine farms in 1682. These farms cultivated about 500 tønder land.

Around the turn of the 20th century, Virring included Nedergaarde, Lille-Virring and Virring-Hede. The area had two schools, a community hall built in 1896, a cooperative dairy and a mill.

The oldest part of Virring Skole dates back to 1900. This original building now houses the after-school program. The rest of the school was constructed between 1962 and 2007. Today, the school has dedicated spaces for both home-based learning and specialized subjects. There is also a cafeteria and an assembly hall with a stage.

Virring Skole is more than just a school. It’s a vital part of the local community. It forms a “landsbyordning” or village association. This includes an annex school and kindergarten Tusindfryd in Hylke. DII Bækkehuset is also part of this village network.

Hylke Skole, newly built in 2015, serves younger students. It currently has 45 students in grades 0-2. Virring Skole provides after-school care through Kastaniehuset. About 90 children in grades 0-3 are enrolled. Students in the southern part of the school district can attend Hylke SFO, which has around 42 children. Older students in grades 4-7 can join Pusterummet. This junior club has about 80 members.

Kastaniehuset was founded in 1985 by parents and the school principal. It started in a former school kitchen. Initially, 32 children were enrolled. Over time, demand grew and Kastaniehuset expanded. It moved to the old school building, increasing its space tenfold. Kastaniehuset now offers a large playground with various activities. These include moon-car racing, sand play, ball games, and a campfire area.

Virring Skole also houses the local archive. Its assembly hall and other facilities are available for rent to local organizations. Virring Hallen is connected to the school. The Virring-Vitved Youth and Sports Association uses a club room there.

The school emphasizes collaboration. A pedagogue is assigned to each grade level from 0-3. These pedagogues work with teachers. This provides a holistic view of each child’s development.

Kastaniehuset organizes many events. A market day is held every September. Proceeds go towards cultural activities for the children. Each year, parents are invited to a Christmas celebration. Children decorate a tree from the forest. Third-grade girls participate in a Lucia parade. The school also hosts a summer festival, a carnival and a fun run.

Virring Skole has grown alongside its community. From humble beginnings, it’s now a modern educational center. It plays a vital role in Virring and its surrounding villages.
