Village Crossing, right here on Touhy Avenue, is a regional shopping center that draws in shoppers from all over the Northwest suburbs. Back in the 1980s, this land was home to a massive teletype facility, but after AT&T closed it down in 1987, developer Trammell Crow Company saw an opportunity.

The company had a vision of this space as a thriving hub for shopping and leisure, so they demolished the old buildings and built the Village Crossing you see today. It opened in 1989 with 57 stores, anchored by big names like Jewel-Osco, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and even an 18-screen AMC movie theater! That’s right, not just one, but 18 screens filled with popcorn and big-screen magic!

What is really interesting is that the parking garage here, with 9,440 spaces, takes up a large portion of the space. The original industrial complex was so vast that even after rebuilding, there’s enough parking for everyone! This is a modern mall unlike any you’ve seen before.
