Tucked away in the serene French village of Wingen-sur-Moder, Villa René Lalique isn’t just a luxury hotel. It’s a shimmering testament to the legacy of René Lalique, the Art Deco master glassmaker. Villa René Lalique was originally the Lalique family home, built in 1920. The villa’s design, a charming blend of traditional Alsatian architecture with distinctive blue shutters, was conceived by Lalique himself. This was a year before he established his renowned glass factory nearby, capitalizing on the region’s rich history of glassmaking, which dates back to the 15th century. The presence of skilled artisans and a convenient train station for transporting raw materials like sand made Wingen-sur-Moder the perfect location. After René Lalique’s passing, his son Marc, and later his granddaughter Marie-Claude, preserved the villa’s original charm. In 2014, Swiss entrepreneur Silvio Denz purchased the property. He transformed it into the exquisite hotel and two-Michelin-starred restaurant it is today, while meticulously restoring the exterior to honor its history. Inside, six luxurious suites await, each a unique homage to Lalique’s iconic motifs. The Hirondelles Suite, awash in ruby red, displays portraits of the master glassmaker and features his beloved swallow motif. The Rose Suite, adorned in delicate peaches and cream, embodies Lalique’s fondness for pastel hues. Meanwhile, the Dragon Suite, with its midnight-blue furnishings and balcony overlooking the park, presents a more dramatic ambiance. Downstairs, the lounge, with its crystal-adorned sofas, Lalique Maison armchairs, and period photographs, offers a cozy retreat. Here, you can enjoy a cocktail or simply relax, surrounded by the captivating world of Lalique. The bar showcases a collection of unique carafes, collaborations between Lalique and renowned spirits producers. The adjacent dining room, a modern glass cube designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta, offers a stunning contrast to the villa’s traditional architecture. Here, Chef Paul Stradner orchestrates a culinary symphony of seasonal dishes, each a work of art that pays tribute to Lalique’s legacy. Even the butter and the milk froth on your espresso macchiato bear the company’s logo. From its inception as a family home to its current incarnation as a luxury destination, Villa René Lalique continues to enchant, offering an unforgettable immersion into the dazzling world of art, design, and culinary excellence.
