Gazing at Villa Pridvorka, one can’t help but wonder about the secrets hidden within its pristine white walls. Villa Pridvorka stands as a testament to architectural ingenuity and a captivating blend of history and modern elegance. Originally designed in 1961 as a residence for political elites, Villa Pridvorka’s destiny took a turn during construction. It became an annex to Hotel Argentina in 1963. This transformation marked a shift towards a reserved, rational architectural style. It distinguished Villa Pridvorka from the more elaborate designs of pre-war Dubrovnik hotels. In the 1970s, further additions transformed this annex into a small hotel of around thirty rooms. Though only a three-star establishment due to its size, Villa Pridvorka offered a unique experience. Guests enjoyed exceptional dining, warm hospitality, and a serene atmosphere. The villa’s location on a cliff provided breathtaking views of Dubrovnik’s old town, Lokrum Island, and the vast blue sea. The secluded beach, fragrant Mediterranean gardens, and tranquil ambiance created a haven for those seeking a luxurious escape. In 2003, a new chapter began for Villa Pridvorka. The new owner embarked on a redesign, transforming it into the luxurious design hotel it is today. Architects Boris Fiolić and Mira Tadej faced a challenging task. They needed to incorporate modern amenities, including an indoor pool and wellness center, while respecting the villa’s protected landscape. Most importantly, they had to preserve the essence and legacy of Villa Pridvorka. The architects masterfully integrated symbolic elements. They created a dramatic atrium and preserved the character of the Mediterranean garden terrace. From the roof bar, guests can still savor panoramic views. The interior design is elegant, simple, and reminiscent of early design hotels. Fiolić and Tadej succeeded in creating a space where the spirit and memories of Villa Pridvorka live on.
