Hidden in Montmartre’s heart lies Villa Léandre. A charming dead-end street it’s lined with cozy houses. These houses boast an Anglo-Norman look. Villa Léandre isn’t just charming. It holds a rich history and secrets. Many artists have walked its cobblestones.

Once Montmartre wasn’t the tourist hotspot it is today. It was a poor neighborhood. More rundown shanties existed than homes. It was called the Maquis of Montmartre. Before World War I the Maquis sold their houses. Real-estate developers transformed the neighborhood. Luxury villas replaced the shanties. Avenue Junot appeared in 1909. Villa Léandre followed in 1926.

Since then Villa Léandre’s fame has grown. Its attractive houses draw visitors. Some houses are in the British style. Brick houses slate roofs and small gardens adorn the street. It’s a haven of peace in Paris. Villa Léandre transports you to a provincial place. It’s far from the city’s hustle and bustle.

Famous people have lived on Villa Léandre. Actors like Jacques Jouanneau Olivier Sitruk and Charles Berry lived there. Juliette Gréco was gifted a house. Michel Piccoli gave it to her. She never lived there though. She preferred Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

At number 15 lived Tristan Tzara. The famous Dadaist poet’s house is worth a look. At the end of Villa Léandre’s 70 meters is a secret staircase. It leads directly to Rue Caulaincourt. Originally called Villa Junot it was renamed in 1936. It was renamed to honor Charles Léandre. He was a cartoonist and humorist. His caricatures appeared in Le Rire and Le Figaro.

Villa Léandre is more than a street. It’s a journey through time. It’s a testament to Montmartre’s transformation. It’s a quiet escape in a bustling city. It’s a place where history art and charm intertwine. Villa Léandre truly is a hidden gem in Paris. Take some time to explore this unique and enchanting street. You won’t regret it.
