Gazing upon Villa Koenenkamp, one can almost hear the rustle of silk. This grand villa, also known as Haus Mark, stands proudly on Marcusallee 38, near Bremen’s Rhododendron-Park. Built in 1915 for the silk merchant Wilhelm Koenenkamp, Villa Koenenkamp whispers tales of a bygone era. The renowned architects August Abbehusen and Otto Blendermann designed this magnificent structure. They crafted a two-story, plastered villa. It boasts seven axes, a hipped roof, and a three-axis portico. Above the portico, a classical triangular gable displays a coat of arms in the tympanum. Rounded bay windows and terraces grace the upper floor, adding to its elegance. A single-story annex extends from the east side. Wilhelm Koenenkamp, born in 1859, made his fortune in the silk trade. His business became one of the most significant in Europe. He served as a member of the Bremen Parliament from 1910 to 1918. He also contributed to various Bremen deputations. Today, Villa Koenenkamp, a protected landmark since 1999, houses offices, practices, and apartments. The grounds have expanded over time. Two additional three-story residential buildings now share the property. The Marcusallee, where Villa Koenenkamp stands, showcases other architectural gems. These include the teahouse of Gut Kreyenhorst, the residential complex at Marcusallee 2/4, Villa Schütte at number 9, and Landhaus Krages at number 11. These buildings, like Villa Koenenkamp, contribute to the rich historical tapestry of Bremen.
