Villa Bünemann boasts a fascinating past. Built in 1911 it reflects the architectural style of the time. August Abbehusen and Otto Blendermann designed this masterpiece of classicism. The building’s porticos and six Doric columns are striking. A frieze with five dancing women graces the entrance. Two cherubs hover above the doorway adding a touch of playful charm.

The villa’s original owner Friedrich Hermann Carl Bünemann was a successful coffee and tobacco merchant. He co-owned the firm Schütte und Bünemann. This company imported goods from Colombia. However in 1935 economic realities forced Bünemann to sell his beloved home. The villa changed hands several times over the years.

During World War II and the subsequent American occupation Villa Bünemann served a surprising purpose. From 1945 to 1952 it housed an American officers’ casino. It even became the headquarters of the American Forces Network AFN. Modifications made during this period were later removed restoring the villa to its original splendor.

Around the year 2000 the Association of the Construction Industry in Bremen acquired Villa Bünemann. The association continues to preserve this architectural gem.
