Considering the educational impact, have you ever wondered about Villa Academy’s story? Villa Academy stands as a beacon of learning in Seattle’s Laurelhurst neighborhood. It’s more than just a school. Villa Academy is a place where young minds grow.

Villa Academy traces back to 1903. The Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus founded their first orphanage and school then. By 1914, Mother Cabrini moved the mission to the present Laurelhurst campus. Now known as St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, she was America’s first Catholic saint.

Famed Seattle architect John Graham Sr. designed Villa’s two main buildings in 1924. A gymnasium followed in the late 1960s. Originally, the school included an orphanage. The Missionary Sisters ran it until 1950. In 1951, the orphanage closed. The Sisters then focused on the elementary school. It was known as Sacred Heart Villa. By 1977, Villa Academy became an independent private school. It became Seattle’s only Catholic independent preschool through eighth-grade school.

The campus spans a generous tract of land near Lake Washington. Villa Academy boasts orchards and gardens. Three age-appropriate playgrounds invite joyful play. An athletic field encourages sportsmanship. Inside, a dedicated art studio and music space foster creativity. Science laboratories spark curiosity. A performance theater showcases talent. A full-size gymnasium promotes physical activity. Villa Academy also includes a Lower School Computer lab and a historic chapel.

Villa Academy emphasizes academics and community service. Small class sizes ensure individual attention. An involved parent community strengthens the school. Its whole-child philosophy aims to help young people. They realize their academic, social, and emotional potential.

The preschool has separate learning spaces. Preschoolers often visit the Lower School. They also enjoy the gym, theater, and library. Each preschool class is paired with a lower or middle school class. This fosters a buddy program.

The Lower School focuses on strong foundations. Kindergarten through fifth-grade students learn reading, writing, and math skills. They also explore the arts, sciences, and international languages. Core subjects include mathematics, reading, writing, religion, social studies, and science. Specialists teach art, music, physical education, technology, library, and French.

Middle School students use laptop computers to support learning. They study humanities, mathematics, science, and international languages. Art, music, drama, and physical education complement these subjects. Middle school students lead the student council. They transition into the high school model.

Villa Academy participates in the Catholic Youth Organization athletic program. Interscholastic sports include cross-country, basketball, volleyball, soccer, and track and field. These are available for both boys and girls. Villa Academy is dedicated to holistic development. It shapes the minds, bodies, and spirits of its students. The school embraces diversity and inclusion. Villa Academy challenges and supports students. They experience differentiated education and inspired curiosity. Villa Academy helps students become stewards of their lives. They become caretakers of their well-being. They also become guardians of the environment.

Villa Academy’s Chapel was constructed in the mid-1920s. It underwent extensive restoration in 1991. Today, students use the chapel. It is also rented for weddings.
