Did you ever hear of a church home that truly felt like home? Beacon Avenue Church of God, right here on Beacon Avenue South, is known for just that. It’s a place where faith, family, and community intertwine. The church’s history is deeply connected to the lives of its pastors, especially Bishop Ivory T. Harris. He found Christ right here at Beacon Avenue Church of God in 1992 under Bishop Willie Vaughn. Years later, after a journey of ministry and leadership, Bishop Harris returned to Beacon Avenue Church of God. In a poignant full-circle moment, he became the lead pastor in 2024. This homecoming followed the passing of Bishop Alvin Vaughn, a close friend of Bishop Harris. It was a transition filled with both sorrow and the promise of continuing the church’s legacy. Beacon Avenue Church of God isn’t just a Sunday service. It’s a vibrant hub of activity throughout the week. Sunday morning begins with Manna Service at 9:30 am. It is followed by Christian Education School at 11:00 am. The main Sunday Service starts at 12:30 pm. For those who can’t attend in person, online streaming is available. Wednesday evenings are dedicated to prayer at 6:30 pm and Bible study at 7:00 pm. These midweek gatherings offer a chance for deeper connection and spiritual growth. First Lady Pastor Brenetta B. Harris, also a native of New Orleans, plays a vital role in the church. She leads the Pearls of Wisdom Women’s Ministry and is a published author. Her book, “Overcoming Pain, A Guide to Freedom,” reflects her dedication to helping others find healing and strength. Beacon Avenue Church of God isn’t just a building. It’s a family. It’s a place where people have found refuge and support during difficult times. The Harris family has often opened their home to those in need. It’s a testament to the church’s commitment to community and compassion.
