Vihara Kesejahteraan Kosambi Baru opened its doors in 2013. Before that it was known as Kelenteng Hok Tek. It served the local Buddhist community. A simple baktisala was all it had. In 2000 Bhikkhu began organizing the temple. Meditation training retreats and Dharma lectures started. The temple community grew.
A renovation in 2002 added a prayer hall. Both Mahayana and Theravada services became frequent. More people came to practice Buddhism. The temple’s influence expanded. YA Nyanabodhi Mahasthavira led a revamping in 2012. He oversaw its official inauguration in 2013.
Today Vihara Kesejahteraan Kosambi Baru offers much more. A Youth Organization thrives. A Children’s Sunday School educates the young. A columbarium provides a final resting place. Community service and celebrations mark important days like Vesak and Chinese New Year. The temple serves thousands.
The Ancestral Baktisala isn’t just a repository of memory. It’s also a center for education. Classes on traditional Chinese morals and ethics are held there. Five classrooms are dedicated to this. Even a kuti room provides lodging for Sangha members.
