“Ever feel a sense of serenity amidst urban bustle?” That’s the essence of Musholla Al Ma’mur. This Jakarta mosque offers a peaceful escape. Let’s delve into the story of this humble yet significant place of worship.
Musholla Al Ma’mur stands on Jl. Warung Gantung in Kojan. It’s in the Kalideres area of West Jakarta. This location makes it a vital part of the local community.
Interestingly, there is another Masjid Jami Al Ma’mur in Tanah Abang. This one started as a small musala around 1900. It served the traders of Tanah Abang. People needed a place for their five daily prayers. The musala initially covered just over 1,000 square meters. It has since grown into a mosque. The mosque now occupies nearly 3,500 square meters.
The expansion of Masjid Jami Al Ma’mur is credited to three benefactors. They are Sayid Abubakar bin Muhammad Al Habsyi. The second is Syekh Abubakar bin Sungkar. And the third is Bin Talib from Singapore. Abubakar Al Habsyi and Abubakar bin Sungkar played major roles in the construction.
In 1914, the Al Ma’mur Foundation formed. This laid the groundwork for building a proper mosque. Construction began in 1915. By 1917, the Masjid Jami Al Ma’mur was complete. The foundation ensured the mosque’s construction had a legal basis.
Originally, the mosque had no fence. Sometime between 1925 and 1930 a fence and trees appeared. This indicates an expansion towards the road.
Although we are standing at Musholla Al Ma’mur, the story of Masjid Jami Al Ma’mur gives insight into the development of religious spaces. It shows how a small prayer area can grow into a significant community hub.
As you reflect on Musholla Al Ma’mur remember the spirit of community. Think about the dedication that built these places of worship. May it inspire you to find peace. May it guide you to contribute to your community.
