The 1970s saw significant changes. Neville Johnson took over as senior pastor after the Midgleys departed. Under his leadership the church experienced remarkable growth. Amazing acts of healing were reported. Attendances soared. Missionary work expanded to Asia Africa and South America. The church even produced recordings of its vibrant worship services.
The 1980s presented challenges. Pastor Johnson’s resignation in 1983 led to difficult times. Attendances dropped significantly. Income fell. Mission work was scaled back. The Zion Bible Training Centre closed. The church faced adversity. Yet through perseverance and a new name Victory Christian Centre it eventually overcame these obstacles.
A financial rescue package resulted in new leadership. Kem Price Rick Seaward and later Max Legg each guided the church through pivotal moments. Eventually the church became Victory Outreach Church of Auckland and moved to its present location.
