Victory Assembly of God Church

Did you ever hear of a church that started in a sports facility? Victory Assembly of God Church, right here in Carrollton, has just such a story. Victory Assembly of God began its life rather unusually. It wasn’t in a traditional church building. Instead, its early congregation gathered in the American Indoor Sports Facility. Imagine the squeak of sneakers and the echo of basketballs during the week, replaced by hymns and sermons on Sundays. This unique beginning speaks volumes about the resilience and dedication of the church community. Victory Assembly of God Church traces its roots back to 1998. It started as Carrollton Christian Fellowship, an outreach of Christian Life Cathedral. A small group of twenty-five people met at 1735 Peters Colony in a building owned by the North Texas District of the Assemblies of God. In 1993, Carrollton Christian Fellowship took a leap of faith. They became independent. Then they took on the full financial responsibilities of the building on Peters Colony. A generous donation of 18 acres of land on Hebron Parkway marked a turning point in 1995. The sale of the Peters Colony building facilitated the move to the sports facility, a testament to the congregation’s adaptability. Construction began on a new, 15,970-square-foot worship facility on Hebron Parkway in 2000. The year 2001 marked a new chapter, both for the church and the nation. The church officially became Victory Assembly of God Carrollton. The first service in the new building was held on September 16, 2001, just days after the events of 9/11. The church provided a much-needed place of solace and community during a time of national grief and uncertainty. After 21 years of service, Pastor Bob Weis resigned in December 2009. Pastor Max Docuson and his family arrived from Sulfur, Louisiana in June 2010. Under Pastor Max’s leadership, Victory Assembly of God Church continued to flourish. The church’s commitment to giving back is evident in their practice of donating 10% of all incoming funds to local and foreign missions. Victory Assembly of God stands as a testament to the power of faith, community, and adaptability. It’s a place where history and faith intertwine, a story that started with a small group and grew into a vibrant, multicultural congregation.
