Vibeholmskolen is not just a school. It is a community of 530 students from 0th to 9th grade. The school is physically divided into areas. Small and large students interact daily. This creates a secure environment for everyone at Vibeholmskolen.
What makes Vibeholmskolen special? The school prioritizes openness, trust, community, and humor. High academic standards are also key. The school wants all students to be challenged academically and socially. Teaching considers each student’s skills. It considers their academic abilities and social skills.
But it is equally important to cherish community at Vibeholmskolen. Students help each other. They show consideration. They clean up after themselves. In short they take responsibility for the Vibeholmskolen community.
Throughout the school year Vibeholmskolen hosts events. Everyone participates. These events strengthen the community. For example the lower grades have morning song every Friday. They meet sing three songs and wish each other a good weekend. The upper grades have a community meeting once a month. Besides a song there are academic presentations from students at Vibeholmskolen.
The school board has principles that guide the school. It is important to the board to support activities that promote well-being. This applies to both children and staff at Vibeholmskolen.
Vibeholmskolen focuses on two main areas. The first is to improve all students academically. This should align with their potential. The second is to support well-being. It wants to develop it with a focus on the class community and each student at Vibeholmskolen.
The school is divided into three departments. These include lower grades 0-3 middle grades 4-6 and upper grades 7-9. Grade teams work closely together. Classes collaborate on many activities.
In the lower grades each class has a school educator. They have their own hours in the classroom. This involves supporting teaching. They also participate in teaching as an extra resource. School educators are also part of the after-school program. By being in both the school and after-school program they create wholeness for the children.
Vibeholmskolen uses flexible schedules. This means that each class’s schedule can vary from week to week. This is within the school’s schedule framework. All students meet every day at 800 AM. The class’s current schedule is on AULA. The lower grades finish at 200 PM every day. The middle grades finish at 200 PM four days a week and at 300 PM one day a week. The upper grades finish at 200 PM two days a week and at 300 PM three days a week.
Throughout the year Vibeholmskolen has various events. These break up the normal school day. Examples include a sports day December celebration Christmas conclusion Shrovetide and the 9th grade’s last day of school. There is also the last week before summer vacation.
Teaching alternates between classroom teaching subject work teaching across classes in the grade and project work. Team teaching is used where it makes sense. Vibeholmskolen also works closely with Arken Ishøj Nature Center the Youth School and the Culture School.
