“A school named after a true trailblazer?” Right before your eyes stands Vaughn Occupational High School. Named after Jacqueline B. Vaughn, a woman who broke barriers as the first African American and first female president of the Chicago Teachers Union. Vaughn Occupational High School isn’t your typical high school. Founded in 1968, this school has a unique mission. It serves students with disabilities from grades 9 through 12, providing them with a specialized education. What makes Vaughn even more special is its dedication to empowering its students beyond the traditional classroom setting. The school continues to support its students even after they graduate, offering programs until they reach the age of 22. The school’s curriculum goes beyond academics, focusing on life skills, occupational training, and social skills development. Vaughn Occupational High School is a place where students aren’t just prepared for exams, they’re prepared for life after graduation.
