Valentines High School first opened its doors in 1901. It was originally known as Park Higher Grade School. The school was located on the opposite side of Valentines Park.

In 1929, a significant change occurred. The girls’ wing relocated to a new building on Cranbrook Road. This new institution was named Ilford County High School for Girls. It became a selective grammar school specifically for girls. The original site then became Ilford County High School for Boys. In 1935, the boys’ school moved to its present-day location in Barkingside.
A pivotal year in the school’s history is 1977. The school was renamed Valentines High School. It embraced coeducation. Boys were admitted for the first time the following year.
In 2007, Valentines High School expanded. A new sixth-form building was opened. It boasted state-of-the-art physical education facilities.
