Founded in 1965 Uxbridge College has a rich history. Uxbridge Technical College opened its doors on Park Road. This followed discussions in the 1930s. Land was even reserved then. The college’s initial focus was aeronautical engineering. Its proximity to Heathrow Airport made this a logical choice. However this plan changed in 1957. The college officially opened in 1966. Anthony Crosland the then Education Secretary performed the opening ceremony. Uxbridge College later expanded. In 1987 a new campus opened in Hayes. It was previously the site of Townfield Secondary School. The word “Technical” was dropped from the college’s name the following year. Over the years Uxbridge College has undergone significant transformations. In 2017 it merged with Harrow College. Then in 2023 Richmond upon Thames College joined the group. This created Harrow Richmond & Uxbridge Colleges. Each college however maintains its own identity. The college has invested heavily in its facilities. £38 million was spent over 12 years. This included the £5 million Mall. This impressive building contains classrooms a coffee area and student support services. There’s also a £6.3 million Technical Institute. The Hayes campus boasts impressive facilities too. These include hair and beauty salons a theatre and recording studios. Uxbridge College’s commitment to education is evident. In 2010 Laraine Smith the college’s principal received an OBE. This was in recognition of her services to further education. A new sports department was launched in 2011. It includes a state-of-the-art sports hall and football pitches. Uxbridge College received an ‘Outstanding’ rating in 2008 following an Ofsted inspection. It has strong partnerships with several universities. These include the University of Greenwich Brunel University and Kingston University. Uxbridge College continues to thrive. It provides education and training to thousands of students. Its legacy is one of innovation and excellence. The college’s continued success is a testament to its commitment to providing high-quality education.
