The USM Museum officially known as Muzium and Galeri Tuanku Fauziah. It was founded with the School of Humanities in 1971. The Fine Arts Programme followed in 1972. These initiatives laid the foundation for the university’s art collection. The museum opened its doors to the public January 21, 1982.
Wan Zakaria Wan Ismail was the first curator in 1981. Before him, T.K. Sabapathy served as the honorary curator. Their dedication helped shape the museum’s collection.
Consider Tuanku Fauziah binti Tengku Abdul Rashid. She was the Raja Permaisuri Agong of Malaysia. She reigned from 2001 to 2006. In her honor, the museum was inaugurated as Muzium and Galeri Tuanku Fauziah on March 19, 2007.
The USM Museum has diverse exhibits. The ground floor features an art gallery in the south wing. The north wing displays musical instruments and copies of the Quran. The upper floor is devoted to archaeology, mining and space exploration. This mix of exhibits shows USM’s broad academic interests.
