August the Strong, known for his contributions to Dresden’s Baroque architecture, established a collection of sculptures. This collection, including the Üppigkeitsvase, eventually found its home in the Albertinum. The Albertinum, like the Üppigkeitsvase, has weathered the storms of time. It survived World War II, although it suffered partial destruction. The sculptures, including Corradini’s masterpiece, were taken to the Soviet Union. They returned to Dresden in 1958. Now, the Üppigkeitsvase stands proudly in the Albertinum. It shares the space with works spanning millennia, from classical antiquity to contemporary art.
