From humble beginnings to a modern institution let’s explore its story. The University of West London traces its roots to 1860. It began as the Lady Byron School. This school stood where the Ealing campus is today. The Lady Byron School later became Ealing College of Higher Education.
In 1991 Ealing College merged with other institutions. It joined Thames Valley College and Queen Charlotte’s College. The London College of Music also joined. They formed the Polytechnic of West London. Mike Fitzgerald was vice-chancellor.
A year later the Polytechnic became Thames Valley University in 1992. This change followed the Further and Higher Education Act. The University of West London continued to grow. It merged with Northwick Park School of Nursing in 1994. Riverside College of Nursing also joined.
In 2004 the University of West London merged with Reading College. The Ealing campus underwent a significant transformation in 2015. A hundred million pounds was invested in new facilities. These included a new library and student union.
In April 2011 the university changed its name. It became the University of West London. Laurence Geller became the new Chancellor. The University of West London merged with Drama Studio London in 2019. Ruskin College, Oxford joined in 2021.
The University of West London now comprises nine schools. These include The Claude Littner Business School and the London Geller College. The School of Computing and Engineering is also part of it. As well as the London College of Music and the College of Nursing.
The University of West London has campuses in Ealing and Brentford. There is also a campus in Reading. In 2015 the Ealing campus had a major upgrade. A new social area and updated facilities were added.
