The University of the East College of Medicine and Dentistry’s story began in 1948. It started as part of the Philippine College of Commerce and Business Administration. The college quickly gained recognition for its dental education. It is known as one of the top dental schools in the country.
Dr. Casto del Rosario was the first dean. He was followed by Dr. Genaro B. Felizardo in 1952. Dr. Felizardo was a dedicated educator from the UP College of Dentistry.
In 1964 the College of Dentistry moved to Quezon City. It shared a campus with the UE Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center. This brought together the health sciences programs.
Dr. Francisco M. Herbosa became dean in 1968. He was a top graduate of the college. Under his leadership, UE dental graduates excelled in licensure exams. He improved the college’s facilities and curriculum.
Dr. Diampo J. Lim took over as dean in 1987. He secured scholarships for faculty in Japan. He also established connections with dental schools worldwide. These schools are in Japan, the USA and France.
In 1988 the College of Dentistry began moving to the UE Manila campus. This allowed for expansion and new facilities. The college aimed to stay current with dental medicine trends.
The University of the East College of Dentistry achieved a milestone in 2007. It ranked number one among dental schools in licensure examinations. It had an impressive 86% passing rate.
The college offers a Doctor of Dental Medicine or DMD program. It also provides Master of Science in Dentistry courses. These programs cover periodontics, orthodontics, prosthodontics and endodontics.
A study showed that the UE College of Dentistry produced many candidates seeking US licensure between 2002 and 2005. This highlights the college’s global impact.
In recent years, the University of the East College of Dentistry has consistently been named a top-performing school. The college achieved a 93.10% passing rate in the November-December 2024 licensure exams. The University of the East College of Medicine and Dentistry continues to uphold its legacy.
