It was the second polytechnic in the whole of the UK! The founders, Quintin Hogg and his fellow philanthropists, wanted to bring education to the working people of Woolwich. Over the years, it grew and merged with other institutions, eventually becoming Thames Polytechnic in 1970. But the biggest change came in 1992 when it was finally granted university status and became the University of Greenwich – Greenwich Campus we know today. This place isn’t just about the past though. This university is still a vibrant hub of learning with students from all over the world.
