The name Universitu00e9 PSL may not ring a bell for you, but its constituent institutions are renowned throughout the world. The University was formed with the ambitious goal to bring together the best minds and resources in Paris to tackle society’s most pressing challenges. It’s a shining example of how collaboration and interdisciplinarity can be a powerful force for good.

This is Universitu00e9 PSL, a public research university that’s a powerhouse of academic excellence, nestled right in the heart of Paris. The most notable feature of this university is its structure, which is modelled after the collegiate universities of the UK like Oxford and Cambridge.

The university was built in 2010, but some of its constituent schools, like the Collu00e8ge de France, can trace their origins back to the 16th century. In its early years, PSL was a mere alliance of five institutions in the Latin Quarter, but in 2011, they landed a coveted Initiative d’Excellence grant from the French government. This funding allowed them to expand their reach and bring together a diverse range of institutions from science, engineering, the arts, and humanities under a single umbrella.

The university is comprised of 11 constituent institutions and two associate members. The oldest of these is the Collu00e8ge de France, founded in 1530, and the most recent addition is the u00c9cole nationale supu00e9rieure d’architecture de Paris-Malaquais, which joined in 2025. PSL offers everything from undergraduate programs to doctoral degrees, across every academic discipline imaginable. It draws its students from around the world and boasts an impressive number of graduates who have gone on to become world leaders in their fields.

It’s a unique and powerful institution that is changing the face of higher education in France. As you walk through the university’s campus, take a moment to imagine all the incredible minds who have walked these halls before you. You are standing in a place where bold ideas are born, where discoveries are made, and where the next generation of leaders are being trained.
