Established in 1982 Universitas Wiraswasta Indonesia stands proudly in Jakarta. This university was founded by Halim S Tirtamadja PhD. It initially thrived under the leadership of Prof Mr Sunario Sastrowardoyo a former Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs. He was a key figure in the 1928 Youth Pledge. He stressed the importance of patriotism in education.
Universitas Wiraswasta Indonesia received permission to operate from the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture in 1982. It fell under the supervision of LLDikti Region III Jakarta. The university achieved a B accreditation rating under a new government assessment system.
The university is overseen by the Yayasan Pendidikan Wiraswasta Indonesia foundation. It offered undergraduate programs across three faculties Economics Law and Engineering. The institution had a reputation for producing accomplished graduates. Since the 2001-2002 academic year Universitas Wiraswasta Indonesia held a B accreditation from BAN-PT. It offered regular employee and entrepreneurship classes.
Sadly by mid-June 2023 the Directorate General of Higher Education Research and Technology Kemendikbudristek revoked the university’s operating license. The reasons cited included alleged fraud diploma issuance without proper coursework and a lack of clearly defined programs and students. This marked the end of an era for Universitas Wiraswasta Indonesia. This once vibrant institution is now a footnote in Jakarta’s history. The legacy of its founders and the achievements of its graduates remain however. The story of Universitas Wiraswasta Indonesia serves as a reminder of both triumph and the challenges faced by higher education institutions.
