“Ever wondered how a university transforms from a humble beginning to a well-respected institution?” That’s the story of Universitas Tama Jagakarsa. It stands proudly in Tanjung Barat, South Jakarta.
Universitas Tama Jagakarsa’s journey began in 1985. At that time, it was under the Yayasan Perguruan Jagakarsa. The university started with five faculties. These included Economics, Law, Engineering, Administrative Sciences, and Teacher Training & Education. Within six months, it gained operational permits.
However, in 1986, its application for registered status was denied. But the spirit of Universitas Tama Jagakarsa persevered. In 1989, the head of Yaperjasa was allowed to establish a single higher education institution. This led to the founding of STIE Jagakarsa. It offered programs in Accounting, Management, and Development Studies.
Later in 1990, STIH was established. Then in 1995, STT gained registered status. A significant change occurred in 1998. Yayasan Perguruan Jagakarsa split into two. One focused on schools. The other, Yayasan Pendidikan Jagakarsa, oversaw the three higher education institutions.
The idea to merge the three schools into a university arose in 2003. Finally, in 2004, Universitas Tama Jagakarsa was officially established. The Ministry of National Education issued the decree. This marked a new chapter for the institution. The university is now officially recognized with SKPT Nomor: 115/KPT/I/2017.
Today, Universitas Tama Jagakarsa offers a wide range of programs. There are six faculties and 17 study programs. These include Economics, Law, Engineering, and Teacher Training. You can also study Communication and Psychology here.
The Faculty of Economics offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Management. You can also study Accounting at both levels. The Faculty of Law provides programs in Legal Studies. The Faculty of Engineering includes Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering. Architecture, Information Systems, and Computer Science are also available.
The Faculty of Teacher Training & Education focuses on language education. You can study Indonesian or English. The Faculty of Communication offers programs in Communication Studies. Lastly, the Faculty of Psychology provides a degree in Psychology.
