Established in 1962 Universitas Prof Dr Moestopo Lab Terpadu stands proudly. Its story begins with Major General TNI (Ret) Prof Dr Moestopo. A dentist he headed the Maxillofacial Surgery Department at Gatot Subroto Army Central Hospital. He envisioned a need for more healthcare professionals. This vision led to the creation of a dental course in Jakarta.
In 1952 the Dr Moestopo Dental Technician Course opened. It evolved into the Dr Moestopo Dental College in 1958. This college offered two programs a dentistry program and a mid-level dental technician program. To meet the growing need for dentists the Dental College became the Faculty of Dentistry in 1961.
On February 15 1962 the Universitas Prof Dr Moestopo Foundation was established. The university initially included faculties of Dentistry General Medicine Social and Political Sciences Economics Agricultural Engineering Journalism and Ushuluddin. Due to funding and resource limitations the faculties of Medicine Agricultural Engineering and Ushuluddin were discontinued.
The university’s name includes the unique addition of Beragama meaning religious. This addition has several interpretations. One interpretation links it to upholding the first principle of Pancasila belief in one God. Another version connects it to the political climate of 1966. The Indonesian government suppressed communism. Universities suspected of communist ties were shut down. Adding Beragama served as a clear statement of non-affiliation with communism or the Indonesian Communist Party PKI.
Today Universitas Prof Dr Moestopo Lab Terpadu boasts five faculties and numerous programs. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees including a doctoral program. The university has a strong focus on applied learning. It has a well-equipped integrated laboratory for practical experience. The university is also known for its strong emphasis on religious tolerance and the principles of Pancasila. It continues its legacy of educating and producing professionals. Its graduates contribute significantly to Indonesian society. This remarkable institution remains a testament to its founder’s vision and the enduring spirit of its community.
