Wondering where Indonesia’s future media leaders are forged? Welcome to Universitas Multimedia Nusantara. UMN, as it’s often called, isn’t just another university. It’s a launchpad for innovation fueled by the Kompas Gramedia Group.
Universitas Multimedia Nusantara was officially launched on November 20 2006. The ceremony was at the Hotel Santika in Jakarta. Dr. Ir. Dodi Nandika inaugurated it. He was the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Education. But the story began earlier. Dr. (HC) Jakob Oetama, Kompas Gramedia’s founder, envisioned it.
UMN’s campus began to take shape. The original campus including the classroom building and rectorate officially opened on December 2 2009. Later UMN added the New Media Tower. It is also known as Raih Juara 1. This 12-story eco-friendly building opened on September 8 2012. The building even won an award for energy efficiency in 2013.
Consider the facilities at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara. There is a photo studio equipped with the newest professional equipment. There is also a TV studio. It adapts to various media courses. The radio station broadcasts daily on 107.7 FM. Labs accommodate many disciplines with sophisticated hardware and software. The library has over 20000 printed items. It also offers e-journals.
UMN conferred degrees to its first graduates on November 26 2011. Mari Elka Pangestu gave a speech. She was the Minister for Tourism and Creative Economy. Two bachelors received international scholarships. These scholarships were for studies in Japan and Malaysia. Almost 80% of the graduates quickly found jobs.
UMN offers a range of faculties. These include Business, Information and Technology, Communication, and Art and Design. Universitas Multimedia Nusantara began with seven study programs. By 2021, it had expanded to sixteen. This shows its dedication to growth.
The university’s logo tells a story. The globe represents UMN’s global aspirations. The white boxes symbolize technological progress. The open white box means a desire for limitless growth. Blue signifies information and communication technology.
UMN boasts impressive sports facilities. There are outdoor basketball and badminton courts. There are also indoor soccer courts. These spaces host various activities. These activities include martial arts and yoga.
Many notable people have graduated from Universitas Multimedia Nusantara. Anggi Marito and Audrey Tapiheru are singers. Chandra Liow is an actor and director. Gritte Agatha is an actress and YouTuber. These alumni show UMN’s impact.
