Established in 1963 as the Institut Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Saraswati Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar has a rich history. Initially focused on teacher training it faced challenges due to political unrest. It ceased operations from 1965 to 1979. Revived in 1979 it expanded its offerings. This included adding faculties of arts sciences and education.
The institution’s growth continued. The integration of the Akademi Bahasa Asing Saraswati in 1982 marked a significant step. It officially became Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar. This broadened its scope and its recognition. It included faculties of agriculture law economics and engineering.
The university adapted to government policies. It restructured its faculties under Presidential Decree No 62 of 1982. This decree significantly shaped the university’s structure. Further growth saw the addition of postgraduate programs. A Master’s in Regional Planning and Environmental Management started in 2008. A Master’s in Management followed in 2013. The university continues to offer more programs. These include Bachelor’s degrees in environmental engineering and pharmacy. There are now 24 programs in total.
